We partner with the largest urushi lacquer refinery in Japan to bring you with Red URUSHI for kintsugi use.
Red-URUSHI is used in base, mid or final priming. It can also be used as final finish in kintsugi. Choosing red or black urushi as final undercoat depends on the metallic powder you would use in the kintsugi repair.
Fukui Prefecture is known as the birth place of urushi with 1500 years of history. The region is still an active craft town with lacquering and maki-e artisans making lacquerware in the traditional methods. The process of urushi refining remains largely hand-made, requiring highly-experienced artisans.
Over the years, a few machines have been introduced, but the process of urushi refining remains largely hand-made, requiring highly-experienced artisans.
